India passport photo
Indian passport and visa photos are usually the square 2×2 inch format (51×51 mm) on white — but some Indian documents still use 35×45 mm. The maker carries both; check which one your form asks for before printing.
| Print size | 51 × 51 mm |
|---|---|
| Pixels at 300 DPI | 600 × 600 px |
| Background | Plain white |
| Head height (crown to chin) | 50–69% of the photo height |
| Notes | Passport Seva asks for a 2x2 inch photo with the face filling most of the frame. |
What India checks
- Plain white background, even light, no shadows on the face or behind the head.
- Face fills most of the frame, both eyes open, mouth closed, ears visible.
- No glasses glare, no head covering except for religious reasons.
- e-Visa uploads: square JPEG, minimum 350×350 px, maximum 1 MB.
- Recent photo (within 6 months), colour, no borders.
Compiled from Passport Seva and Indian e-Visa photo guidance. Rules change; confirm the current version on the official site before you submit. The maker crops and sizes only — it does not alter your background, so shoot against a plain wall that matches the required colour.
